Fed Beige Book

The Federal Reserve "Beige Book" is a report published eight times a year by the Federal Reserve. It provides an overview of economic conditions across the country (specifically across each of the 12 Federal Reserve Districts), based on anecdotal information from businesses, community organizations, and other contacts.

This report is unique in offering real-world insights into various sectors like consumer spending, labor markets, real estate, and manufacturing, rather than focusing solely on quantitative metrics GDP or unemployment rates.

It is published two weeks before each Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting and helps inform the Fed's monetary policy decisions. Written in plain language, it is accessible to both policymakers and the public.

This report is a key resource for understanding economic trends beyond national statistics. Investors and economists closely analyze the Beige Book for clues about the Fed's view of the economy and potential policy shifts, making it an important tool for forecasting and decision-making.
